CGP Survey Shows Increase in Planned Gift Commitments

Good news! The most recent Gift Planner Profile survey from the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners (CGP) shows that nearly two-thirds (65%) of the 637 nonprofit respondents report that planned gift commitments have increased at their organizations over the past three years. Only 5% report that new planned gift commitments have decreased, and 30% say commitments are about the same.

In February 2017, CGP launched its eighth Gift Planner Profile survey. The results of this extensive survey are now available in the "Gift Planner Profile 8: Findings from a National Survey of the Gift Planning Community."

According to 40% of respondents, more than three-quarters of planned gift donors are also regular annual donors. In addition, the study shows that respondents whose charities have seen an increase in planned gift commitments also report that:

  • The number of blended gift commitments is also increasing.
  • They work for an organization that publicly states a goal for planned gifts.
  • They spend more than 75% of their professional time on planned gift fundraising.
  • They have more contact with donors.

The survey provides detailed feedback and analysis regarding salaries and gender, turnover in the nonprofit sector, how charitable gift planners are evaluated, and the differences between the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. It includes replies from active members of CGP, affiliated planned giving councils, and others on CGP's contact list.
